Detroit has a number of interesting and exciting opportunities for you to explore during your stay. Whether you like art, history, or just want to experience nature, you can find it here in the D!

For art you could start at the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts) Detroit Institute of Arts: http://www.dia.org/ which houses everything from a mural by the famed Mexican artist Diego Rivera about the plight of the worker, to ancient Egyptian artifacts.

From there, it is about a 15-20 minute walk to the heart of downtown Detroit, or you can take the Q-line Metro which has stops all along the main drag which is called Woodward.

Hart Plaza which terminates at the Detroit River and adjacent to the GM building is considered the heart of downtown. As you walk along the riverfront, you can see Windsor Canada across the way. http://detroitriverfront.org/riverfront/east-riverfront/hart-plaza.

Belle Isle (The same park designer as Central Park in NYC, but massively bigger: http://www.freep.com/story/travel/2016/04/15/belle-isle-travel-michigan/81648158/ To get to Belle Isle, you will need your car. A lot of the street art is in an area called Eastern Market. You could walk from the Metro ~ 15 mins, or drive.
